Argumentative Speech

  1. Develop a two-three minute speech arguing in support of a claim is to be presented
  2. Each speaker is to be cross-examined by other class members. Thus, the presenter must be able to defend the position advanced
  3. You are encourage to make the argument (claim) narrow and specific. Avoid trying to prove all the related issues relevant to your area of interest. For example, simply show that, for example, Islamic Fundamentalism represents a minority (or not) view in the Middle East.
  4. A one page outline (the outline should follow normal outline procedures) of the speech is require (e-mailed to class member prior to the oral presentation – used my distribution list – “reply all”).
  5. Indicate evidentiary support in the outline. Not a full quotation but the essential thesis and minimal source identification.
  6. An audience for others speeches is a courtesy that you would expect in return.  Additionally, the class discussion will serve as instructional time covering related topics as appropriate
